Weight Watcher Friendly Meal Plan #1 with Beyond the Scale Points

December 19, 2015 by Alisha Hughes 44 Comments

Weight Watchers has just launched a new system called “Beyond the Scale” and it is setting many of the Weight Watcher members into a frantic whirlwind of trying to figure out how and what to eat. This week’s meal plan includes Weight Watcher friendly recipes with Smart Points included for each recipe.

It’s been a busy week in the Hughes house. A busy COUPLE of weeks really.

I am trying to stay on top of things but I have this nagging feeling that I am forgetting something really important.

The meal plan! DOH!

I didn’t meal plan this week. Sarah and I both have no intention of pretending to be perfect and having it all together when we don’t because that isn’t fun or fair, but we also don’t want our bad weeks to become an excuse to not provide you with quality meal plans either. I have a stellar meal plan for you! One way we have decided to crank out a quality meal plan on our off-weeks is by sharing some of the recipes we like from other sites out there and pulling them together to create a meal plan. So, you’re still getting your meal plan! 🙂

meal plan for Dec. 18 pic

Okay, now, back to me for a sec.

I am the “weight watcher” girl on here and Sarah is the “gluten free” girl…. but…. I haven’t exactly been putting into practice the Weight Watcher thing for about 3-ish weeks now. And by “not exactly” I mean “not at all”. I skipped a couple of meetings, I stopped counting, and I ate like crap… for a couple of weeks. I also gained weight. I went back to a meeting this morning to find that I gained 3.5 pounds, but I went in their prepared to hear that I gained more than that because I really have NOT been counting or caring.

Okay, so this is me being real. Anyone who sees me on a regular basis could probably tell you that I have been eating  bad-for-you food in large quantities lately and haven’t lost weight in a little while. That’s the thing about losing weight… It is pretty obvious over time whether you are having success or not.

While I was busy wolfing down a few burgers and fries, Weight Watchers decided to throw everyone for a loop by creating a new “Beyond the Scale” system of counting points involving something called “Smart Points” instead of “Points Plus”.  I found out about this while I was on a mini vacation with my husband, right after we ate dinner at a Hibachi restaurant, so my level of caring was quite low, as you can probably imagine. Like, “HUH? Hmmm…interesting… my app isn’t working… oh, well. Where are we eating tomorrow honey? That pizza place!? Sounds great! I’ll figure out this Smart Points thing when we get home”.

If all I had going on in my life was Weight Watchers I would be nailing this thing down (maybe), but it REALLY, REALLY has not been on the top of my priorities right now. There are so many reasons for this and I am going to choose not to go into them all right now.

So, now that I have inspired and impressed you all…

(sarcasm.. my best defense right now)

… how about that meal plan? 🙂

okay, now back to the meal plan.

I realize that there are MANY (like probably thousands and thousands) of my Weight Watching friends out there trying to figure out what they are going to eat now that Weight Watchers has changed things up, as I am starting to do today. 😉  If you are one of the thousands looking for some new recipe and meal plan ideas that include Weight Watcher Smart Points you have come to the right place. I have calculated and created a meal plan for you using the new Weight Watcher Smart Points system. My intention is to use the recipes in this meal plan this week, and allow myself to eat the special foods served at my in-laws on Christmas. What is your plan this week?

Here is my plan.

Thank you so much for this! I too have been off track for a while and needed some encouragement! It’s been so long since I’ve lost any weight and I can’t seem to get going. The new points system is taking some getting used to. These recipes that you’ve posted, along with your comments are a great help and I’m looking forward to trying them!

Thank you Margaret! I totally understand! It can be discouraging when you have a couple of bad weeks in a row. I had a really good week last week and it renewed my excitement again. I think we have all been there though. The journey has its ups and downs. It is easier to stick with it when you have people on the journey with you though, I think. So glad you came to our site! 🙂

Awww.. Shelly, that’s awesome! How perfect. I feel like switching to the smart points has been a learning curve for me and Yes! I am definitely still adjusting as well. Planning ahead is key for me right now. I keep eating things thinking I will track it later and then I am surprised when I see how many points the food I ate was worth…but that is the learning part I guess, because then I know not to eat that next time. 🙂 It will take a little time but we will get there. Glad you are doing it with your best friend. It’s so much more fun that way!

These recipes are so helpful! I think the grocery list needs to be updated though, it lists Ricotta cheese for recipe 6, but I think it’s actually for #5. It looks like there may be some other things like this. Thanks for putting this all together though!

This is amazing! Thanks for doing all of the planning work, super excited to start using these meal planners.

Are the serving sizes lists somewhere and I am missing it or do we have to click through to each website recipe in order to view the servings per recipe and the serving sizes?

    Thanks!

Hi Tamara! Yes, you will want to go to each recipe to find out serving sizes but I typically try to stick to recipes that are serving 4-6 people.

Hi Julie, I am not completely sure but a couple of ideas came to mind right away. One of my favorite Weight Watcher friendly websites out there right now is Skinny Taste (www.skinnytaste.com) Gina is really great about giving the smart points for every recipe and making it very clear what recipes are gluten-free. To get to her gluten-free recipes you can go here: http://www.skinnytaste.com/recipes/gluten-free/ Gina does meal plans on her site too. I was also thinking you could use Plan to Eat where you can plug in any gluten-free recipes you like and turn them into a meal plan with grocery list. It is very easy to use! We did a review and giveaway on Plan to Eat. If you want to read more about it you can go here: http://mealplanningmommies.com//plan-to-eat-review-and-giveaway/

Thank you for this site. I am really struggling to find foods to eat while on WW. I have an autoimmune disease and can not eat any thing acidic, no tomatoes or tomatoes products, no vinegars, oranges, lemons and no soy , tofu or any thing that is spicy. You can see that my diet is pretty bland and I am so bored with it.

I’m thrilled that I found your site. I lost weight on Weight Watchers a few years ago but now I’m back up with another 40 pounds to lose and 2017 is going to be the year (hopefully!). My question is….since I am in a household of ONE, can your recipes be adjusted by simply dividing by the number of servings each makes? That works sometimes, and other times it doesn’t. I suppose I could make the full recipe and plan on eating a lot of leftovers, but I like the variety in your weekly meal plan. Any suggestions?

Hi Julie, It’s possible that someone else will see this question and be able to chime in. Dividing a recipe in half is a good option. It kind of depends on the recipe. Some of our readers have said they pick 2-4 of the recipes for the week and make those as they are suggested in the recipe and use the leftovers for other meals in throughout the week. Some recipes are freezer friendly, so you could make the 4-6 servings, eat one serving and freeze the rest in one serving portions to reheat later. Hope this helps. If you come up with something that works for you come back and tell us about it. We would love to hear from you again.

I put the recipe in the recipe builder on Weight Watchers and the chicken strips came to 9 SP. Do you think Panko would be less points than the croutons? I also wanted to say a HUGE thank you for doing these weekly menu’s. They help our family so much.

Hmmm… Mine still shows 6 smart points. I wonder if it makes a difference which brand/kind of croutons you enter into the recipe builder? I’m not sure. It looks like 1 1/2 cups of seasoned croutons is 9-10 smart points, depending on the brand. You know what I just thought about though? When I read the recipe ingredients I am thinking 1 1/2 cups croutons, and then I crush them, but maybe they were thinking crush enough croutons to make 1 1/2 cups? Sorry if I am confusing you. I’m not sure exactly how much panko would be the equivalent of 1 1/2 cups croutons, since I am interpreting the recipe to mean that you would measure the croutons before crushing them. Let’s just say that you replaced the crushed croutons with 1 cup panko breadcrumbs. One cup of panko breadcrumbs would be just a couple more smart points than 1 1/2 cup of croutons and it would not change the amount of smart points per serving. It would still be 6 smart points per serving. Sorry for the book, but glad the recipes are helping you and your family! 🙂
