Top sirloin steak and fresh steamed broccoli are cooked in a delicious orange-y broth-y sauce for a flavorful dinner you are going to love. One serving is just 5 green, 5 blue, or 5 purple points on the new MyWW plans!
How to steam broccoli in the microwave.
Did you know you can perfectly steam broccoli in your microwave? You can, and it’s super simple! I’ll show you how in today’s recipe. Besides being faster, you will actually lose less nutrients from the broccoli than if you boiled it in water!
Orange you glad I didn’t say “Zest is always best?”
You will notice that the orange in this recipe is quite subtle. This may seem obvious, but the more zest you use from the orange at the end of the recipe, the more you will taste the orange. If you want to keep the orange taste subtle, you can simply leave out the orange zest at the end.
Ways to change up this recipe.
You can eat this recipe as it is with no other sides, but if you are looking to bulk up this meal, you can serve it with cooked rice or brown rice.
Ready to give this yumminess a try?
Here is what you need:
5 cups broccoli florets (approximately 1-1/2 large heads of broccoli)
1/4 cup water
1 orange, juiced and zested
1/4 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch, divided
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground ginger
2 green onions, sliced
1 pound top sirloin steak, cut into 1 inch cubes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
Here is what you do:
Place broccoli in a large microwave safe bowl. Add 1/4 cup water; cover bowl with a microwave safe plate. Microwave on HIGH heat until crisp-tender, about 4 minutes.
Using oven mitts, carefully remove plate, pointing the plate away from you since the steam will escape. Drain water from the broccoli.
In a small bowl, whisk together the juice from the orange, broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cornstarch, garlic, ginger, and green onion; set aside.
Place the steak, remaining 2 teaspoons cornstarch, and salt in a gallon size zip-close bag and shake the bag to coat the steak.
In a large stir fry skillet, heat the oil. Add steak to the skillet and cook 4-5 minutes, flipping the steak until both sides are cooked; transfer steak to a plate.
Add broth mixture to the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until it begins to thicken. Add steak and broccoli to the sauce, mix and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the broccoli to soak up some of the juices.
Top with additional optional sliced green onion and orange zest. Salt and pepper, to taste.
