How long should I cook my steak on the grill?
Knowing with certainty that you have thoroughly cooked your steak without actually cutting into it can be tricky. With most meat, it’s either cooked or not cooked, but steak is different. It’s not so black and white. It’s brown and pink…and cooked “according to your desired doneness.”
I found the image above on grillgrate.com, and it can serve as a guide if you are not sure how long to cook your steak and what the thermometer should read. They sell this image as a magnet that you can keep on your refrigerator. Learn more here.
Depending on the thickness of the cut of steak you are using and how well you like it cooked, it’s possible you will want to grill your steaks anywhere between 2-13 minutes per side. In this recipe, I am assuming you are using a cut of steak that is between 1/2 to 1-inch thick. If that is the case, chances are good you will want to grill the steak 4-6 minutes on each side.
Sides to consider.
We enjoyed our steak with mashed potatoes and green beans on the side. Other sides that would go great with this recipe include:
- Baked potato
- Steamed broccoli
- Zucchini and/or squash sauteed in butter and sprinkled with salt
- Carrots sprinkled with lemon juice, sauteed in butter, and sprinkled with salt
- Mushrooms cooked in the same skillet used in the recipe
- Corn on the cob
- Asparagus
