Happy Halloween.
I get asked a lot if we celebrate Halloween. The answer is no. We do not celebrate Halloween. We celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus. We celebrate Easter as the resurrection. We do, however, participate in Halloween and we enjoy the fall season with a lot of umph!
I do not know why, but I really enjoy Halloween. I think it is because for those of us who reside in suburban dwellings this day is an opportunity to connect with neighbors with whom we might otherwise never connect. We had so many adorable families at our door and the occasional group of “way to old to trick or treat” teenagers. We were giddy each time the door bell rang. Man, we are corny around here.
I imagine it will only get worse with age.
My family and I walked the neighborhood as well. It was my husband, myself, a dinosaur and a chicken. The original plan was for my oldest son to be a lion. I was to make his costume. To put it mildly his lion looked more like a sack of potatoes with a face, and not lion face, more like a seal!? So, the next time I declare I am going to sew something would someone (anyone!) please tell me to give up, send the money I would have spent on material to charity and pick up a used costume at Goodwill instead.
And, just in case you did not know, Goodwill has tons of costumes come October at wonderful prices….were are talking under five bucks for the same stuff you get brand new at the costume shop. If anyone wants a lion that looks like a sack of potatoes with a seal face let me know. I will ship it ASAP.
This is Squash-0-Rama week because I am going to share my love of squash with the world. World, I love squash. I love it. I love the look of it. I love the taste of it. I love the fact that you can take squash and then pile on the butter and cinnamon and you do not know whether you are eating dinner or desert. Squash makes me happy.
This week with my meal plan I am going to share two of my favorite squash based meals as well as some new meal ideas.
Monday~ Homemade Chicken Nuggets, Sweet Potato, and Green Beans
Tuesday~ Quinoa and Summer Squash
Wednesday~ Peek-a-boo Egg Sandwich
Thursday~ Amish Chicken and Noodles
Friday~ Spaghetti Squash and Garlic Bread
Saturday~ Pumpkin Pancakes
Extra: Peanut Butter Pancake Syrup (Delicious and Nutritious!)
And: Crazy Homemade Potato Rings
I am eager to see your Halloween costume and treat ideas in action. If you like, share a link to your Halloween pictures on MPM’s and we will share them with our readers. This might help out Momma’s like myself with sweet ideas for next year!
Many blessings,
Thomas the Choo-Choo (Katie)
