Alisha’s brief update/confession…
My husband and I went to Dallas, Texas last week and I ate whatever. He was doing something for work and they let me tag along for the ride. It was a nice little 5-day get-away. I was getting back into the groove of counting points again the two weeks before we left on our trip and managed to lose 1/2 pound each week… and then we went on the trip. I have no idea how people who travel all the time manage to stay fit! Seriously! It takes some serious discipline to make good choices when you are eating out for every meal and eating the breakfast from the hotel every morning. If I eat out once or twice a week I can get my head in the game and make a good choice that is relatively low in WW smart points, but when I am eating out for lunch AND dinner several days in a row, plus eating whatever breakfast is offered in the hotel… wow! That’s rough.
I did make some good choices, like ordering the chicken marsala at the Cheesecake Factory and not eating most of the pasta…
… but then I would follow a good choice with a bad one, like sharing a piece of cheesecake or eating one of these the next morning…
I am really not sweating it, but now that I am home I am being more intentional again. I read something that inspired me yesterday. It was a just a few questions to consider. I’m not sure if they will help anyone else but I thought I would share the questions with you just in case.
…But there are bigger, more important things going on right now that have nothing to do with my food intake…
Sarah’s brief update…(from Alisha’s perspective)
I am not sure if you read Sarah’s post last week but she and her family are preparing to bring home their sweet little adopted daughter who they have been anxiously awaiting to bring home for years now! This is beyond huge!! They will be flying to get their daughter this week!!!
Sarah and I have been friends for about 15 years now and in that time I have never known anything to weigh so heavily on Sarah’s heart than this adoption has. As I have reflected on Sarah’s adoption process this past week I was reminded of dreams she shared, prayers we prayed, and tears we cried.
ADOPTION:
DREAMS DREAMED and PRAYERS PRAYED and TEARS SHED.
The adoption process for Sarah and her family has been a long one. Four years ago God placed it on their hearts to adopt and since then there have been many hoops to jump through. One of these days I am sure Sarah will share more on the details of her story, but I thought I would give you a brief friend’s perspective.
I remember Sarah sharing with me how her heart ached for her daughter as the process stalled for weeks, months, and then years. She wanted to give up at times because the burden was so hard to bear for such a long period of time, but then God would give her a spark of hope or a specific dream with her daughter in it and she knew she COULD NOT give up on the daughter she had already begun to love so deeply. Knowing that God called her to something very close to her heart coupled with not knowing how or when it would all work out proved to be a huge patience builder for her. She learned to trust God and rest in Him through it all but there were times when this proved to be extremely difficult. She has a separate blog here if you would like to read more on some of what she was thinking as they went through this process, but also know that many things could not be publicly expressed at the time she was going through them. I cannot wait for the pictures and stories of her bringing her precious daughter home!!! Please join us in prayer that there would be no set-backs as they travel to the DRC this week to get their daughter, and celebrate with us when their daughter is finally home!
…OH and one more thing… SARAH’S BIRTHDAY WAS MARCH 10!!
HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY SARAH!!!
I was looking back on Sarah’s blog post from a year ago and in it she said this:
“…We are still in process of adopting… 3 years later. It has been a struggle of a journey and the end is still out of sight. I dream of the day I have to count kids for fear of leaving my 4th daughter behind as she wanders off to explore.”
One year later the end is in sight and we couldn’t be happier! I cannot think of a better birthday gift than getting to bring your daughter home, can you!?!

I made the Teriyaki Chicken and Rice Casserole last night, it’s absolutely delicious!!!! When I put the nutritional information into my tracker it came out to 10 points instead of 7…did I do something wrong?

Hi Sarah, Great question. This is a question we get a lot. Weight Watchers has something called a “Recipe Builder”. The recipe builder allows you to plug in each ingredient, the amounts of each ingredient, and the number of servings the recipe is worth. Then it does the math for you so you have an accurate # of smart points per serving for the recipe. (It factors in zero point fruits/vegetables and lower smart point lean meat, etc.) It’s possible you are using the nutrition facts calculator on the app/website rather than the recipe builder. Hope this helps. 🙂

I am using the nutrition tracker. So I can safely use the recipe builder total, that’s exciting!! I just want to do this right lol.
