My mother’s recipe: “Cream, Ham, and Peas on Toast”

July 27, 2010 by mealplanningmommies 1 Comment

This one might not look like much, but I promise we all L-O-V-E-D it growing up when my mom made it. My kids really like it now, so I am guessing that there is a good chance your families will like this one as well. I have no idea where she found this recipe, but it is so simple. Here it is:

Ingredients:
Rusk (or just use toasted bread)
Cream of Mushroom soup
Canned Ham
Canned peasDirections:
1. Drain your can of peas and your can of ham.
2. Mix peas, ham, and cream of mushroom soup and cook until warm. (in microwave or over the stove on low heat)
3. Place rusk, or toasted bread, on plate.4. Plop a scoop of the mixture onto your rusk and serve warm. My mom always served this with applesauce, so that is what I do now.

okay seriously?! My mother-in-law just made this for dinner on Sunday night but I had never heard of it before! We made a simple white sauce with onions in it and mixed the peas in before spreading over lightly buttered whole grain toast.
