My Mom’s Cream, Ham and Peas on Toast Recipe

July 13, 2016 by Alisha Hughes 3 Comments

A simple recipe for busy days.

Today I want to share a recipe with you that my mom made when I was a kid. It’s four ingredients and it literally is one of the easiest things I know to make. It might not look like much but I loved it as a kid and now my kids love it too. I associate this recipe with applesauce because my mom always served it with applesauce, but this time we ate it with grapes. My mom called it, “Cream, ham, and peas on toast” growing up so the name stuck. (original right? I know) You could also serve the mixture over rusk, which is a lot like toast.

But first, a brief update on my life.

I cannot even tell you how crazy it has been in our home these past couple of weeks. I have been M.I.A on the blog scene because I was inspired to pour myself into a project. It’s a project I have been wanting to do for a long time now.

Do you have an area of your home that you wish you could get some control over but it is so overwhelming you don’t know where to start? For us, it was the basement. Our basement was completely out of control. When the kids would grow out of clothes I would bag them up and take them down the basement for a garage sale. We did the same thing with toys they didn’t play with, books they didn’t read anymore, furniture that we didn’t use anymore, and on and on it went. A couple of years of this and it got to the point where you could barely walk through our basement without stepping on something.   Just thinking about our basement stressed me out so I wanted to do a major overhaul. We boxed up mountains of stuff and put little stickers on most of them and we made a garage sale happen! We filled our entire garage easily. It’s amazing how much stuff you can accumulate in a couple of years time. Blogging got pushed to the side for a little bit, including responding to comment and messages. Thank you for your patience these past couple of weeks if I took a while to get back to you.

The good news is I have reached my “after picture” moment. The moment I have been waiting for. This is what our basement looks like right now. . .

Sometimes less is more, you know?

The kids were so excited to have space to play again that they were happy to sell the toys, much to my relief. They were really getting into it and were happy to earn some of the money we took in as a “thank you” for their help and their willingness to sell some of their things.

Do you have a project you are working on? If you do you might want a quick, simple recipe that you can whip together in a snap, so you can get back to your project? If you do, look no further.
