What do you think of sloppy joes? How about coleslaw? How about sloppy joes with coleslaw?
Today’s “Slawpy” Joe recipe combines two American favorites: Sloppy Joes and coleslaw!
A healthy Sloppy Joe recipe.
These are “skinny” slaw-py joes. By using ground turkey and picante sauce, along with other ingredients that are very low in Smart Points, one of these sloppy joe sandwiches is just 3 WW FreeStyle Smart Points!
What do you eat with your sloppy joes?
These “Slawpy Joes” go great with corn on the cob…or at least that is what we ate with ours. Other sides that go well with sloppy joes are carrots, cucumbers, chips, and fresh fruit. If you have a little extra time, you might consider adding one of these sides from previous posts on Meal Planning Mommies…
- Zucchini and Corn Sauté
- Seasoned Cheesy Zucchini and Squash
- Deviled Eggs
- Rainbow Bean and Rice Salad
Light buns or no buns?
I used light buns, but you could also eat this dinner without the buns. Just eat the sloppy joe meat with the coleslaw on the side. If you aren’t sure what “light buns” are, you can check out my list of Low WW Point Buns and Breads.
Here is what you need:
Cooking spray
1 pound 99% lean ground turkey
3/4 cup picante sauce or salsa
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1-1/2 tablespoons brown sugar, divided
1 tablespoon light mayonnaise
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 green onion, sliced
2 cups coleslaw mix (packaged shredded cabbage and carrots)
8 light hamburger buns
Here is what you do:
In a large skillet sprayed with cooking spray, cook the ground turkey until it is no longer pink, breaking up the meat as it cooks.
Add picante sauce/salsa, Worcestershire sauce, and 1 tablespoon brown sugar to the ground turkey. Cook 2-3 minutes to let the flavors combine.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar, mayonnaise, cider vinegar, honey, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Toss green onion and coleslaw mix in with the mayonnaise mixture.
Top each bun with 1/3 cup meat mixture and 1/4 cup coleslaw mixture.
Makes 8 “Slawpy” Joes.
One serving is 1 Slawpy Joe Sandwich.
One serving is 4 green, 3 blue, and 3 purple points.

Hi, how many smart points in a light bun? I can’t get them here in Central Florida but could substitute light bread, which is 1 point per slice. I loooooooove sloppy joes with the cole slaw in the sandwich!
Alisha Hughes says
Light buns are 2 WW SP each, so if you take them away in this recipe one serving is only 1 WW SP! Then, you can add a different bun or bread and calculate those points in. Yes, light bread would make a good substitute if your stores don’t carry light buns. 🙂

Am I totally missing what to do with the 1/2 TBsp brown sugar?
Alisha Hughes says
Oh! I am so sorry. The 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar goes in the coleslaw. I just updated the post. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

I’ve never had coleslaw on a sandwich before… and this recipe was AWESOME!! The hubs said the coleslaw all by itself was good, I agree.

Awesome! 🙂
