Update as of 9/26/15:
We have selected a winner!
Congratulations Tami! Please respond to the email we sent you and we will get the book to you in the mail!
Today I am so excited to share with you a book I have recently discovered and LOVE! When I first picked up the book at the library I was hesitant to sit down and read. After all, I felt like I had heard all of the “spending less” and “frugal tips” that one momma could handle.
Well, I was wrong.
“Living Well, Spending Less: 12 Secrets of the Good Life”, by Ruth Soukup, is a book that you will want to keep on your bookshelf. You will find yourself recommending it to friends and family. Then pulling the book out for further reading for the third or fourth time!
Ruth launched a personal blog in 2010, “Living Well, Spending Less” after realizing that she needed to reign in the spending habits in her own life. She figured a blog was a great avenue for personal accountability. She was right! Not only have her spending habits turned around but many aspects of her life.
“Through the journey toward financial peace, I have found that the state of my finances usually mirrors the state of the rest of my life. If I am a mess with my money, then I am generally a mess everywhere else. Thus, I am passionate about saving money, not because I have all the answers, but because I have learned that money– whether too much of it or too little– permeates every area, every single facet, of our lives. It is directly connected to our spiritual, emotional, and even physical well-being. Ultimately, how we spend our money is a direct reflection of what is in our hearts.”
Ruth Soukup’s “Living Well, Spending Less”
In her book Ruth lays out the “12 Secrets of the Good Life” in 12 humorous, practical and easy to read chapters. I love that at the end of every chapter Ruth issues you a challenge that you can do either do alone or with your spouse. She offers further websites and even free printables on her blog as way to help and motivate you through the challenges. This book is going to engage you, whether you think you need it or not.
At first when I picked up this book I grabbed it for personal improvement, not thinking it would apply to Meal Planning Mommies at all. Wrong again! Ruth has a whole chapter dedicated to “How to Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half.” She gives you lots of tips, personal stories and once again, free printables to help you cut your grocery bill and save money.
She even gives you five different mom personalities to figure out your current meal planning and grocery shopping style. I would say I am between Gina Gourmet and Sally Saver! Check out Ruth’s book to find out which personality you are!
Inside her book you will find recipes to make your own household cleaners, encouraging words to minimize your stuff, and practical tips on how to stop the habit of spending and start getting into the mindset of saving, learning to be content and so much more.
As I said before, after reading “Living Well, Spending Less” you will want to refer to it time and again for her tips,  keeping yourself motivated and on track or to pass along to a friend whom you know would love it as well!
