List of emergency substitutions

February 13, 2009 by mealplanningmommies 2 Comments

Don’t you hate it when you are just about to start a recipe and then you realize you are all out of one ingredient? Often times it is a staple, like sugar, or butter, that you would always have in your house. I have created a PDF with substitutions listed alphabetically that you can print, or refer to, on our site.

Next time you are out of butter, pull out 1 Tbs. shortening and 1/4 tsp. salt for every cup of butter you need, and you’re all set!!

Click here to find more substitutions you can use in your kitchen.

Really?? 1 Tablespoon of shortening equals 2 sticks of butter?? That sounds like a great budget saver, but I have to admit, I’m a bit of a skeptic… 🙂
