Friday: Taco Pie

February 2, 2010 by mealplanningmommies 4 Comments

This is one of those recipes I have had tacked to my fridge for months, wanting to try it- but always forgetting! This week… I finally pulled it out and created Taco Pie! Overall, it was a good recipe, although a little rich! I would definitely add some fresh veggies on top (pico de gallo, avocado, lettuce, etc.)!

Here is what you need:

1 tube crescent rolls
1 pound hamburger
1 package taco seasoning
1/2 cup water
2 cups sour cream
1 cup cheddar cheese
2 cups crushed taco chips

Step 1: Brown hamburger, drain fat and then add taco seasoning and 1/2 cup of water. Cook until most of the water has evaporated.

Step 2: Put crescent rolls along the bottom and up the sides of a 9×9 dish. Sealing around the edges. (Instead of buying crescent rolls I bought “crescent creations”, it is basically the crescent dough in a sheet instead of triangles)

Step 3: Place 1 cup taco chips on crescent rolls (I used generic Fritos from Aldi)

Step 4: Put meat on top of crushed chips

Step 5: Put 2 cups of sour cream on top of meat and spread around.

Step 6: Place 2 cups cheddar cheese on top of sour cream

Step 7: BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR 20 MINUTES.

Step 8: Take out and add 1 cup of crushed taco chips, then bake for 5 more minutes.

Step 9: Enjoy!

Meal Serves: 6
Cost of Meal: $6.00 (without any extra veggies)
Cost per person: $1.00

I LOVE mexican casserole dishes.

What is your family’s favorite mexican dish?

This does sound rich. My favorite Mexican style casserole is chicken enchiladas. I stack them instead of rolling them. Yummy!

Hi…question. Is it 1 cup of cheese or 2? In the ingredients it says 1 but in directions it says 2. It looks delicious! Do you also think that reduced fat sour cream or fat free would be okay?

I love this, going to try it for the super bowl party I am having. Another good one is tamale pie, have you tried it? Here is the recipe, simple and easy 🙂

    Hamburger Meat
    Taco Seasoning
1 can of 14 oz Stewed Tomatoes
    1 can of corn
    Shredded Cheese
    1 Box of Cornbread
    1 Egg
    2/3 Cup Milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brown hamburger meat and add taco seasoning to package directions. Add Stewed Tomatoes and corn, toss a few times. Pour into a greased 9×13 baking dish. Cover with cheese and prepare Cornbread mix to package directions. Pour mixture over hamburger mixture and bake for 20-25 minutes until brown and bubbly, sprinkle with cheese upon taking out of oven. Delicious

Sorry about the typo! You need to add 1 cup of cheese, however you can add more to taste if you’d like!
