It’s a way to use up leftover crispy french fried onions, besides green bean casserole.

If you make green bean casserole topped with French fried onions, as many do over the Holidays, it is possible that you have some French fried onions leftover. If you have one cup left, this recipe is the perfect way to use it. If you are looking for a lightened up version of the old green bean casserole, the Campbell’s website has one here.

5-Ingredient dinner.

If you have been following Meal Planning Mommies for a while, you know that from time to time I like to share recipes that are just five ingredients or less. I have a few reasons for this. When I create meal plans, I use the latest recipes on the blog. I feel like it gives people a little bit of a reprieve when they see that there is a recipe in the meal plan that uses very few ingredients. Not only is it a money saver, it can be a time saver too.

By using crushed French fried onions in place of seasoned breading, you can make super simple crispy, crunchy, flavorful fried thicken with just five ingredients! The French fried onions I used are Fresh Gourmet Crispy Onions, but you can use any brand. Some brands call them “Crispy Onions,” and other brands call them “French Fried Onions.”

Want to add a little extra?

You could also add a little Parmesan cheese to the crushed crispy onions, or a little paprika.

Another side dish idea:

Green beans make a great side dish. Another side dish (and the one I made that was just kind of so-so in my opinion) is zucchini and squash slices sautéed in a little extra virgin olive oil and topped with a little Parmesan cheese and more crushed French fried onions.

Are you ready to make this simple kid-friendly dinner? Great!

Here is what you need:

5 ingredients to make crispy crunchy chicken using french fried onions

1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon light mayonnaise
1 cup French fried onions (also called crispy onions)
4 (4 ounce each) pieces of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Salt and pepper, to taste

Here is what you do:

Preheat the oven to 400°F.

In a small bowl, mix together the Dijon mustard, honey, and mayonnaise.

Put the French fried onions in a zip-close bag. Using a flat tenderizer or a large metal spoon, crush the French fried onions into little crumbs. Place the crushed crumbs in a shallow dish.

Crush the french fried onions

Using a basting brush or knife, coat the chicken pieces with the honey mustard sauce.

Coat the chicken with the crushed french fried onions.

Place chicken on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked.

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are coated with honey mustard sauce and crushed crispy onions and baked. Juicy chicken with a crunchy outside. Delish.

Great recipe! I was wondering if it can be cooked in airfryer instead of the oven?
If it can what temperature do I cooked it & for how long?

Yes, the air fryer would be perfect for this chicken! I haven’t tried it yet, but based on past recipes I would set the temperature on the air fryer to 400 degrees. Close the basket and set the timer at 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, flip the chicken and cook for another 4 minutes. Hope this helps!
