Smart Super Bowl Foods with Smart Points

January 26, 2016 by Alisha Hughes Leave a Comment

Super bowl is just a couple of weeks away! And you know what that means? FOOD!!!

Are you getting excited!? I know I am. I can’t tell you what teams are playing, but I CAN tell you that we will be eating fun foods while watching the game! Most of us associate the Super Bowl with food… and lots of it! Wings, pizza, dips, and chips, lots of chips! Check out these statistics…

A COUPLE OF SUPER BOWL FOOD STATISTICS

According to the USDA, Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest food consumption day of the year, behind Thanksgiving? Yes, you read that right!

Wings, wings, and more wings! The National Chicken Council estimates that Americans will eat 1.23 billion chicken wings on Sunday, which is hard to even wrap your head around. Think of it this way… That’s enough to fill a football field 1,083,333 times, assuming chicken wings are 3 inches long on average. YIKES!

Another food we associate with the Super Bowl… PIZZA!  Dominoes alone expects to deliver 11 million slices on Sunday. A slice from a large Dominos pizza is about 7 inches long. Line those 11 million slices end-to-end and it’d be the length of 21,388 football fields.

And how about some chips to go with those wings and that pizza? Americans will likely eat 11 million pounds of chips on Sunday, according to Shape. Frame of reference: A standard NFL football is between 14 and 15 ounces, according to Livestrong, so that’s about 12,137,931 footballs worth of chips.

SO THE QUESTION IS:
WHAT DO YOU DO TO STICK TO YOUR
WEIGHT WATCHER PLAN ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY?

In the same way that those on Weight Watchers might want to plan what they will eat ahead of time for Thanksgiving, the same is true for Super Bowl Sunday! Bring food that works with your plan to Super Bowl parties, eat smaller potions and load up on veggies. The nice thing about Weight Watchers, though, is that you have “extra” points each week so you can always make Super Bowl Sunday a quilt-free splurge day if you know that you can have enough discipline to control how many points worth of food you will consume during the other days of the week. Are you looking for some super bowl foods that are low in smart points? Check out these recipe ideas that you can feel good about on the big day.
