- 3 lb boneless English Roast (rump roast, boneless rib loin or beef eye round roast)
- 1/4 c coconut aminos (gluten free soy sauce or regular soy sauce- if you are not gluten free)
- 3 c beef stock (make sure it is gluten free, I used Kitchen Basics Brand)
- 1 cup coke, not diet
- 1/4 c dried, minced onion
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1 1/2 tsp salt (more or less to taste- start with 1 tsp and go from there)
- 1 tbsp. EVOO
- Step 1: Sear Meat on all sides in 1 tbsp. EVOO. I used my instant pot for this recipe so I just seared it right in the instant pot and then turned the setting to slow cooker.
- Step 2: Put meat into slow cooker.
- Step 3: Mix the minced onion, garlic powder, oregano and 1 tsp salt. Pour over roast.
- Step 4: Add 3 c beef stock and 1 c coke to the slow cooker.
- Step 5: Turn on low and cook for 4 hours
- Step 6: Remove roast and slice into thin slices. I just sliced them as thin as I could get them.
- Step 7: Add roast back to the slow cooker and cook another 2 hours on Low.
- Step 8: Taste the au jus and adjust the salt to your preference.
- Step 9: Make the sandwiches! I added provolone to the top of the *bread and then toasted the bread in the oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted. You certainly don’t have to toast the bread, but I find that with gluten free bread if you toast it, it will not fall apart as easily.
- Step 10: Serve with a side bowl of au jus!
- *If you don’t have gluten free rolls, buns or bread on hand, the meat is amazing to eat without bread as well!
This is, by far, one of my favorite meals.
The toasty bun, melted cheese, full flavor meat and au juis. Yum.
Fun fact… did you know Italian Beef and French Dip are two completely different recipes? For some reason, I always used the terms Italian Beef and French Dip interchangeably. Look up the recipes, however, and you will realize that they are different.
Italian Beef uses Italian seasonings and giardiniera as a topping.
Most French dip recipes use a mixture of beef broth and onion soup seasonings.
I think I confused them a lot because you can you dip both of them in the juice they create.
I haven’t made French Dip in a long time because I couldn’t find a recipe that didn’t include a packet of onion soup mix plus beef boullion (which are both hard to find gluten & soy free).
One day I just decided that enough is enough, this is one of my favorite meals and I am just going to figure it out!
I compared lots of recipes and came up with a recipe that is full of flavor and yet contains no gluten or soy. Yay!!!
The rest of my family ate the French Dip on a toasted French Loaf.
I went ahead and purchased the Udi’s gluten free french rolls for myself. Once toasted, the Udi’s french rolls were perfect! A little on the small side, but that just means I got to eat two!
This is a super easy crockpot recipe. Needless to say, my house smelled AMAZING!

You didn’t mention when to put the coconut amino in. I put it in with the coke and stock as well as turned it up on high for the first round of cooking.
