Sarah’s Food for Thought: Cookies, cookies, cookies

November 30, 2015 by Sarah Anne 1 Comment

Foor for Thought from Sarah (1)

So now that Thanksgiving is over and my Christmas decorations are up… it’s time to talk cookies.

Cookies, cookies, cookies. Specifically gluten free cookies and maybe a few candies as well.

In the past I haven’t spent a lot of time in the kitchen making treats, it was honestly one of those things that got pushed further and further back in the schedule. The holidays can tend to be that way, which is why I decided to decorate for Christmas BEFORE Thanksgiving this year.

I know… all the holiday purists are shaking your heads at me, but my intentions are not to RUSH into the holidays (skipping over Thanksgiving). Instead my hope is that this year I can intertwine the two holidays to make them flow from one right into the next which makes it feel like one long extended holiday rather than two holidays that are competing with each other. After all one of the biggest things we give thanks for on Thanksgiving is the reason for Christmas… Jesus. So lets allow our hearts of gratitude flow right into the advent season.

My first step to create a slower paced Christmas was to decorate when I had time before Thanksgiving and my second step toward an intentional unhurried Christmas is to make a list of holiday goodies. I would love to make dozens of recipes, but I need to prioritize people!

Note that not all items on my list have a recipe link up yet because I will be sharing them after I bake them, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek post of what is to come! I am just so excited to start baking!

gf holiday treat planning

First on my list are our traditional family favorite cookie recipes:

  1. Nana’s Holiday Sugar Cookies (Recipe to come!)
  2. Grandma Oring’s Molasses Cookies (Recipe to come!)

Next comes the family candy recipes:

  1. Great Nana’s Divinity (recipe to come!)
  2. Mom’s Caramels (recipe to come!)
  3. Grandpa Nicol’s Peanut Brittle (recipe to come!)
  4. My husband’s favorite peanut butter buckeyes
  5. My husbands other favorite peanut butter fudge (recipe to come!)

Then are the extra treats that I would love to make if time allows:

  1. Gingerbread cookies
  2. Italian wedding cake cookies
  3. Almond Thumbprint cookies (for my friend, Nicole!)
  4. Babycakes
  5. All the interesting goodies I can find on Pinterest!

This list looks daunting now that I have typed it all out, but I think my 3 girls and I will have a blast in the kitchen making all, SOME of these goodies! I cannot wait to come back and share all of the recipes, pictures and end result!

Baking day will ensue this coming Saturday… hubby, beware!  XOXO

I would love to hear about your top “Must Make” Holiday treat!

Leave a comment below and let me know.

Who knows, I may decide to add your treat to my holiday baking list!
