Monday: My Mom’s Spaghetti Sauce

November 24, 2008 by mealplanningmommies 1 Comment

MMmmm….my mom made a big pot of spaghetti sauce tonight. She served it with two different kinds of noodles, salad, and garlic bread. It was a hit for a group of fourteen people!

She does this by heart so it is often a little bit different:

Brown 1 pound of Ground Round with 1 small onion, brown to a medium rare.
Add 4 small cans of diced tomatoes (or 2 large) to the meat.
Do NOT drain the Ground Round.

Add 2 tbsp of garlic powder
Add 1 teaspoon of thyme, rosemary, basil
Add 1 tbsp of oregano
Add 2 tbsp of parmesean cheese
Add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Add 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
Add 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper
Add 2 bay leaves
Add 1 tbsp olive oil

Bring all of the above into a simmer for 15-20 minutes.

Turn to low heat. Add two small cans of tomato paste. Stir really well.

Keep this on low heat until you are ready to serve.

My Mom uses a big pot for this entire meal. She browns the meat in the pot and just keep adding the ingredients.

Serve with your favorite al dente pasta. Let your guest garnish with sour cream, mozzerella, parmesean, and sour cream. A side of green salad and garlic bread it perfect.

It is a big pot of yummy!

Tip: Making the sauce early is great because it not only freezes very well, but the flavors just keep mixing together.

The recipe above serves 4-5 people, so adjust as you need!

That sounds like a really yummy sauce recipe! I’m intrigued by the addition of cinnamon. I’m always on the lookout for a great spaghetti sauce recipe. I’m going to try this one! Thank you!
