It’s Freezer Meal Week!

March 14, 2009 by mealplanningmommies 21 Comments

Have you ever been interested in freezer meal cooking, but didn’t know where to start?

That was me about 2 months ago! Yours truly had never tried to freezer “meal plan.” Occasionally I would freeze leftovers, but I really had no idea what would freeze well and what wouldn’t. One of my friends talked me into participating in a freezer meal co-op (later this week you can find out what that is and how to start your own!). So far I have participated twice which has resulted in me making 2 different meals (4 of each) and in return receiving 6 different freezer meals for my family. GENIUS!

This week not only will you learn what freezer meal cooking is, you will get 5 great recipes, TONS of information and tips about freezer meal cooking and even have a chance at winning a great freezer meal e-book!

To start off our Freezer Meal week, we would like to hear from YOU!

Leave a comment and let everyone know if you are into freezer meals or are excited about learning more this week to get yourself started!

Me! Me! Me! I wanna learn!!! Especially w/ a family of super picky eaters…is there a “pool” of recipes the group chooses from in order to satisfy all tastes? I would hate to get bacik meals in a swap that my family wouldn’t eat. I’m afraid of losing money on that. How would it be handled? Hmmmm…looking forward to what you share!!!

I can’t wait to read more about this! I just started menu planning (again) and this time I really want to try hard to give it a go! Freezer meals would come in super handy for us since we tend to come and go at all times of day/week.

    Thanks!

i used to make freezer meals a lot. i would mainly do the main dishes. i have a cookbook of freezer meals. i would take one day a month and make about 7 dishes and since there are only 3 of us in our family i would split each one into 2 and we would have about 14 main dishes that i could pull out to cook.

Great idea! I just last Thursday sent an email invitation to 10 of my friends asking them to join me in a Freezer Meal Coop. I will definitely send them to this site for this week so we can have some meals to share!

Me too! What an awesome idea. I have only done very limited freezing; soups, stock, spagetthi sauce, frozen cut vegs, never a meal or main dish. I work part time outside the home now and would love another way to make dinner prep less stressful.

I have been freezer cooking for years with my girlfriends. We used the system from http://www.30daygourmet.com. LOVE it! We don’t “cook” every month, but when we do, it’s fantastic! I love the idea of a co-op! Fantastic idea!

I have heard about this before, but did not want to pay for recipes or to learn how to do it! Especially right now, when every penny counts. Learning how to do it, especially the idea of doing a co-op locally would be great! Thanks!!!

I love my “meal swap club”! We also prepare freezer meals and swap them. They have been great for all of our families. We make our swap nights into dessert nights and enjoy some girl time after making all of our meals. We have found so much freezes well!

Looking forward to your posts this week… growing up, my mom did “once a month cooking” (although it ended up being more like once every other month) and I’m getting ready to start contemplating doing something similar… right now, I just try to freeze any leftovers that won’t get eaten up quickly for another meal in a couple of weeks… we bought a chest freezer last thanksgiving, and i’m looking forward to filling it up!
