Beauty and Baking

June 1, 2015 by Sarah Anne

Ready for a great and easy project to do with your kids in the kitchen? Once you get the supplies, this is so quick, easy and fun to make!

My 8 yr. old and I had so much fun in the kitchen today making some super easy homemade Chocolate Mint lip balm. I wanted to share this with you because it requires melting ingredients together on the stove which my daughter really felt like was “baking.” She LOVES to bake and help out in the kitchen. If you have a daughter, though, who isn’t a huge fan of helping out in the kitchen this may be one way to peak her interest!

Here are some pictures of the process.

lip balm ingredients

You need:  Coconut Oil, Shea Cocoa Butter, Beeswax, lip balm containers, cocoa powder (optional) and peppermint oil (optional)

lip balm containers

Here are the lip balm containers. We bought these on amazon. It was $6.89 for 25 lip balm containers. I really thought this was a great price! Here are the exact ones we bought. If you don’t have the other ingredients, you can buy them on amazon as well!

After heating all the ingredients in a small saucepan, the next step was to fill the lip balm containers. At first we thought… man it sure would be nice to have a funnel… what could we use? Then I found this secret tool….

A medicine syringe! IT worked like a DREAM! Hopefully you have one in your medicine cabinet, if not you can buy them at any pharmacy type store.

Here is our finished product! After the were cooled, we decorated the outside with nail polish. They turned out super cute and my daughter is so excited to give them to others as gifts. We only made 10 this time, but we have enough containers and ingredients to make more!

We found the recipe for the lip balm at Butter Nutrition! It really is so simple and only requires a few ingredients.  We made half chocolate butter and the other half we added a few drops of peppermint oil and made chocolate peppermint lip balm.

Do you have any great DIY recipes to make in the kitchen? Please Share!
