Bleu Cheese Stuffed Teriyaki Burgers

Blue cheese stuffed teriyaki burgers on Meal Planning Mommies

I don’t know if you have had the chance to try the sweet teriyaki pineapple pork chops  or not, but if you didn’t you need to try them! The KC Masterpiece honey teriyaki marinade tastes off-the-charts delicious!

If you did try the pork chops, chances are good that you have some of the leftover marinade in your refrigerator right now. When we were done with our pork chops I started trying to think of other ways of using the sweet, tasty marinade. Then I saw a blue cheese stuffed burger and it spurred on this recipe idea. It’s simple, needing just a handful of ingredients and it tastes fantastic. My husband and I loved these. I hope you do too!

How the points add up.

Hamburger buns come in all shapes and sizes… and smart points, apparently. I used light hamburger buns that were 2 WW smart points each, and the app shows them as 10 points for 4 buns… so slightly over 2 points each if we are getting technical. For a list of light bun and bread options that are low in smart points you can go here. Another option would be to have an “open faced” burger where you leave off the top bun, or you could skip the bun altogether and make an lettuce wrap. I have done this recipe as a lettuce wrap and with a bun and I thought it tasted great either way.

I used Healthy Life wheat hamburger buns, but I know not all stores carry them, so here are some other options to consider:

4 Ways to prepare these Bleu Cheese Teriyaki Burgers:

So, if you make this recipe as a lettuce wrap it is going to be 6 WW FreeStyle Smart Points.
If you make it with a light hamburger bun it is going to be 8 WW FreeStyle Smart Points.
If you make it with a regular bun it is going to be 9 WW FreeStyle Smart Points.
If you make it open-faced with just the bottom bun of a regular hamburger bun it is going to be 8 WW FreeStyle Smart Points.

When I made these I used light hamburger buns so that is how I came up with the 8 WW FreeStyle smart points per burger total.

Here is what you need:

1 lb. 95% lean ground beef
Salt and pepper to taste
4 Tbsp. reduced-fat crumbled bleu cheese
2 Tbsp. Honey Teriyaki sauce
4 light hamburger buns
Red onion, tomato, and lettuce optional toppings

Here is what you do:

Preheat grill pan (or sauté pan) to medium-high heat.

Shape beef into 4 equal patties. To make it easy to get four equal patties I cut my beef into four equal parts on the tray I buy it from, like this:

If you are really into red onion, like I am, you can chop up the red onion into little pieces and work them into the meat at this point. I am the only one in my family who likes red onion, so I opted to just top my burger with it rather than cook into the beef. Do what works for you.

Press down each patty and shape each one into a thin oval shape.

Put 1 tablespoon of the bleu cheese on half of each patty.

Fold the meat over the bleu cheese so both ends of the oval meet, seal around the edges, and reshape into a circle.

Place meat patties on the pan and cook 3-5 minutes on both sides, or until meat is no longer pink. (I cook mine a little longer than that because I like the meat to be a little crispy on the outside, but 6-10 minutes is an average cooking time for hamburger patties.) Season with salt and pepper, if desired.

While the burgers are cooking, slice up your vegetables.

I stacked my burger up with lots of veggies. The vegetables are optional, but the sauce isn’t. 😉 It’s so good! Top each patty with 1/2 tablespoon honey teriyaki sauce and serve warm.

    These were fantastic!!!we skipped the veggies and just went with the burger, blue cheese and teriyaki sauce… grilled them flat and crispy!!! Wow!!!
