Apple Bacon Feta Turkey Sliders – 4 WW FreeStyle Smart Points

Okay, I have to start this one by saying that my pictures did not do this one justice so I am sharing the picture that was in the cookbook. It looks like Katie used cute little slider buns. I was not considering the size of the sliders and I bought sandwich thins. The sandwich thins were too big for the size of the meat patties so I cut the sandwich thins in half. I still thought the sliders tasted great, and it did help keep the smart points down, but I felt like the pictures I took were just a tad less impressive than if I had used slider buns. It’s a blogging thing. Sometimes I just have to choose not to care. This is one of those times.

What’s really important is that these Apple Bacon Feta Turkey Sliders taste great, are filling, and are low in smart points so you should give them a try!

This recipe comes from Katie Farrell’s “Dashing Dish” cookbook. If you didn’t see the Dashing Dish giveaway we are doing this week you can go to that here. We will be giving away one free copy of Katie’s cookbook, “Dashing Dish: 100 Simple & Delicious Recipes for Clean Eating” and Katie’s devotional “Devotions for a Healthier You: Feeding Mind, Body, and Soul”. You have until this Saturday to enter into the giveaway. Good luck!

The cookbook suggests that you can use maple syrup or barbecue sauce. I used BBQ sauce.

Smart Point breakdown.

Each slider with a half of a sandwich thin is just 3 Weight Watchers FreeStyle Smart Points.
Each slider with a light hamburger bun is just 4 Weight Watchers FreeStyle Smart Points.
If you are counting the points for just the turkey slider, without a bun/sandwich thin, the meat patty by itself is just 2 WW FreeStyle Smart Points per patty.

For the meal plan that goes with this week we will be assuming you are using light hamburger buns and will be counting one serving as 4 WW FreeStyle Smart Points.

Here is what you need:

Ingredients for Apple Bacon Feta Turkey Sliders

1 lb. extra-lean ground turkey (or ground beef)
2 slices center-cut bacon
1/2 cup finely diced apple
1/4 cup finely diced sweet onion
1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
4 T. low-sugar barbecue sauce or low-sugar maple syrup
1/2 t. salt
¼ t. black pepper
½ t. garlic powder
½ t. poultry seasoning, optional
10 light hamburger buns
Optional substitutes for hamburger buns: 10 whole grain buns, sandwich thins, or lettuce wraps (I used 5 sandwich thins cut in half, but would recommend light hamburger buns)

Here is what you do:

Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray.

In a large bowl mix the turkey, bacon, apples, onions, feta, barbecue sauce (or syrup), salt, pepper, garlic powder, and optional poultry seasoning together until combined. (Katie says she uses her hands to mix well.)

Scoop 1/4 cup of the meat mixture and form into 10 mini sliders. Place the sliders on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the centers of the burgers are no longer pink or a meat thermometer reaches a minimum of 165°F.

IMG_6160

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the burgers rest for 5 to 10 minutes. Serve on a whole grain bread, sandwich thin, or lettuce wrap. I used 1/2 of a sandwich thin for each slider making each slider 4 smart point per serving total.

Makes 10 sliders.
One slider is 4 WW FreeStyle Smart Points.

These were so good! Thanks for sharing! We cooked ours on the traeger for some extra deliciousness and splurged by putting them on kings Hawaiian whole wheat rolls which made them 5 points each. Worth it!
