Alisha’s Favorite Pork Chops & Caramelized Onions

January 21, 2017 by Alisha Hughes 11 Comments

This is, hands down, the easiest way I know how to make delicious pork chops. This dinner idea can be prepared and cooked in less than 15 minutes. Besides the pork, this recipe only requires a couple of ingredients that I almost always have in my kitchen. The best part, though, is that it tastes and smells fantastic, so everyone in my family of five eats it, which, of course, makes for a very pleasant evening.

When you are in a pinch, grab some pork chops and a bag of frozen sliced onions from your grocery store. You can have dinner cooked and on the table in a zip.

I am calling this my “super simple, so delicious pork chop recipe”. I hope you love it as much as we do!

Here are the three ingredients needed for this recipe:

1- 1/2 lbs. Lean pork chops, fat removed
2-3 Tbsp. Soy sauce
1-2 tsp. Paprika
1 large or 2 small onions
Cooking spray

Here is what you do:

First, preheat the grill pan. (or whichever pan you are using)

Second, be sure to trim off the fat from your chops, if there is any. (I almost forgot this step, but it’s kind of important, because look at all the fat that was on the this meat… not very tasty) It might also be helpful to cut the meat into six equal pieces at this point, if it isn’t already. This will make it easy to know how much is one serving after it is cooked.

Next sprinkle the pork chops with paprika.

Spray the grill pan with cooking spray. Set pork chops on the grill. Pour soy sauce over the pork.

Flip the pork chops over. Cover the chops with the grill press, if you have one. Cook five minutes.

While pork chops are cooking, slice onions. I sliced mine kind of thick. I am the only one in my family who eats the onions, so I probably didn’t need quite this much, but that’s okay. Not a fan of onion? You also choose to leave out the onions and the pork chops will taste great still.

Flip the pork chops over again and allow to cook for another five minutes. Once fully cooked, transfer pork chops to a plate.

Cook onion on the grill pan for about 5 minutes, or until slightly softened and caramelized. The onions will pick up the flavors left in the pan from the pork chops.

Serve 4 ounces of pork with however much onion you like.

Last tip: I love to eat one piece of pork with one slice of onion with every bite. It’s so good this way.

Makes 6 servings.
One serving is 4 ounces of pork (this should be 1/6 of the 1-1/2 lbs.) with as much onion as you like.
One serving is 3 Green, 3 Blue, or 3 Purple Points.

Enjoyed this recipe last week … but check the ingredient list, there aren’t any onions listed! 😉

Also, my soy sauce evaporated in the pan and there was no liquid for sauce. What did we do wrong?

Thank you Cyndi. I think juices might not have been the right word. It picks up the flavors from the pan. I’m sure you did it right. Thank you! I will look at this a little closer and think about how to reword that part and add onions. Thanks so much!

If you don’t have a grill press, what could you use?

You could just use a regular grill pan without the press or a large skillet.

    Hi Alish,

When you put the paprika and soy sauce on the meat, did you do both sides at the same time or did you just put it on one side?

This sounds great. My husband is diabetic & a picky eater. He doesn’t like chicken, turkey or pork. Although sometimes I can make something he likes I’m excited to receive recipes from you. We are on a limited budget & unable to spend much on meals after meds. Someti
